Volunteer
There is more than one way to volunteer with Books Beyond Bars. We always need more volunteers interested in continuing our core work of visiting the youth at Nidorf, but there's also plenty of behind-the-scenes work, like sorting donated books, grantwriting, developing community outreach and partnerships, improving our documentation and records management, and more-- we have members with all kinds of strengths and interests. Send us an email, or keep an eye on our webpage for upcoming meeting and event announcements-- we'll be happy to have you! Most meetings and events happen at the Graduate School for Education & Information Studies building at UCLA, at the corner of Royce Dr. and Charles E. Young Dr. North.
If you are interested in volunteering at Nidorf, an experience that many of our volunteers have found to be incredibly rewarding, be aware that getting clearance from the Department of Probation to volunteer on site is a lengthy, multi-step process. If you're an incoming or first-year student, it's best to get an early start! Get in contact with us at [email protected], and start filling out the Department of Probation volunteer application (PDF) ASAP.
